Mary Janelle Whitehurst is a wife, mom, minister, speaker, and writer. She was born in Memphis, TN (the home of Elvis, Beale Street, and the world’s best BBQ…Corky’s!!) When she was 12-years-old her family moved to a small, up and coming suburb just north of Dallas, TX called Flower Mound. Although it took sometime to adjust Mary Janelle now considers herself a full-fledged TEXAN.
In 2006 Mary Janelle graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Texas Christian University (GO FROGS!!). On December 15, 2017 she completed a SEVEN year journey and earned her Master of Divinity degree from George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University with a focus on Ministry Leadership and Theology. She has been a licensed minister since September 21, 2014 and currently serves as an Associate Minister at her home church, David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (2211 E. MLK Blvd., Austin, TX 78702).
Mary is a social worker/social activist at heart and loves working with youth in Austin and the surrounding communities. She has a heart for empowering girls and women of all ages to love themselves, redefine beauty, live with a purpose and build each other up. She also has a ministry called 31:21 where she helps women explore and redefine what it means to live Proverbs 31 in the 21st century.
Mary has been married to her amazing husband Jamar since May 30, 2009 and they have a six year old son, Jamar Calvin.
