I’m Mary and I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, wife, mom, minister of the Gospel, and servant leader. I currently serve as the CEO of The Source (www.thesource.org) — a Christ-centered non-profit that provides free preventative health care and pregnancy support to women in both Austin, TX and Houston, TX.
I’m originally from Memphis, TN — home of Elvis, Beale Street, and what I proudly claim as the world’s best BBQ (Corky’s!!), but my husband Jamar and I settled in the Austin area nearly 18 years ago. We currently live just northeast of the city in the booming town of Hutto, TX (Hippo Nation!) with our son Jamar Calvin. We are active members at our church, David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where we serve in various capacities: Jamar is a trustee and also leads the Young Adult Choir, while support our Pastor as an Associate Minister, and we both teach Young Adult Bible study.
I earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree from TCU (Go Frogs!!) and my Master of Divinity from Baylor’s Truett Seminary (Sic ‘Em!). I’ve been part of the team at The Source for nearly 10 years and have loved seeing the Lord bring my passion for social work and my calling to ministry into beautiful alignment. What a mighty God we serve!
In my down time you’ll catch me reading, crocheting, roller skating, going on long walks, and spending quality time with my family. I am also a sporadic DIY-er and love building things and flipping furniture when I can find the time (there are many incomplete projects in my home, much to my husband’s chagrin…LOL!).
My life’s mission statement is Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
